Fashion One Spotlights Saskia de Brauw shot by Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent menswear ads

Dutch supermodel Saskia de Brauw has been chosen by Saint Laurent as the star of the brand's latest menswear campaign, titled "The Saint Laurent Boy is a Girl."

Fashion certainly got used to a certain amount of androgyny from Hedi Slimane in his previous position at Dior Homme, where the designer was famed for regularly sending out runways packed with skinny silhouettes on rather waif-like boys. The trend has continued across the fashion and beauty world over the past decade with Brad Pitt recently announced as the new face of the famous Chanel No. 5 perfume and stars like Andrej Pejić and Lea T challenging gender stereotypes in catwalk and editorial work.

It doesn't come as too much of a surprise that the face of the latest print menswear campaign from the revamped Saint Laurent brand features a woman wearing the trousers. Dutch supermodel, artist and Chanel muse Saskia de Brauw donned the clothes and Slimane himself picked up the camera to shoot the campaign.

Produced in in Los Angeles, where Hedi has been based since 2007, de Brauw went makeup free, her hair cut into a shaggy bowl and wore a selection of clothes from the Spring 2013 menswear collection. An avid photographer, Slimane runs an online photo diary, has exibited widely, and shot for publications including Man About Town.

The collection is available to preorder on the Saint Laurent site now, and goes on sale in stores in January 2013.

Will 31-year-old Saskia's gender-blurring role help to create a wider trend? New York model Casey Legler isn't letting her gender get in the way and is already making waves in the men's style sections while Rihanna has recently been spotted in menswear looks by Raf Simons and Acne, but only time will tell.
