Nolcha Fashion Week New York Spring Summer 2014

Fashion Week continues with the Nolcha Fashion Week’s Spring Summer collections, held in New York, 2014. This ward winning even highlights the collections by independent fashion designers. Here they can showcase their skills to an eager audience of press, stylists, retailers and the fashion industry. Media coverage for this event includes Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Lucky, NBC, Forbes and MTV. Sponsors for the show included Coca-Cola, American Airlines, Landrover, Rusk, Vitamin Water and Don Q Rums.

American Stacie May describes her collection as being inspired by Savannah’s vibe and colors. Her collection includes a Pale Taupe color coat made of linen with large buttons and wide lapels; Pansy Purple stove-pipe tailored trousers, and; thigh-length organic cotton dress with crew neck, padded shoulders, cinched with patent leather belt. Two outfits were particularly appealing: cocktail dress in sheer Jet Black with Egyptian Gold vertical stripes, flowing down to Black satin that gives way to a sheer full length hem, and; diagonal cut Pale Pink and Ivory sleeveless blouse paired with Pastel Grey loose fitting trousers and an Ivory color lacy shawl.

Viennese designer Magdalena Adriane’s collection starts out with a full-length strapless Naples Yellow heavy silk brocade gown. The bodice is very fitted while the rest of the generous fabric is beautifully draped on the model. Her next garment is another full-length gown in flowing silk fabric, this time in Misty Rose, with a fitted sequined bodice. Two amazing garments stand out from the rest: a long flowing silk ball gown with a short train, and; Crimson taffeta ball gown with pleated flowing full-length fabric. This last garment has a fitted bodice with short puffed sleeves.

The title of Zimbabwean fashion designer Maita Marimo’s collection is Tribal Chic. Classic shapes and stylish cuts define this collection. The intricate designs include high-quality embroidery and beading. You’ll find a color palette with variations of white, black and beige as well as Rust Burnt Orange; delicate prints; plunging necklines; patent belts, jackets and high-belted blouses. Standouts in this collection: high-belted blouse with diagonal panels and sculpted corners followed by tailored pants with a top pleated fringe at the waist leg bottoms, all done in Cream silk, and; Jet Black and Pastel Grey wave patterned cocktail dress with silver metallic beading at the plunging V-neckline and hem. This dress was accented with a patent Rust Burnt Orange thin belt.

Russian fashion designer Léka is influenced by architecture and constructivism. Her style and philosophy is built on the graceful movement of the female body and built on the emotional appeal of beauty and perfection. Her collection has been called innovative, fashionable and fresh. The garments in her collection: full-length Jet Black silk cocktail dress with sheer strapless bodice topping full crinoline petticoats, and; heavily brocaded Jet Black and Silver dress with sheer skirt, vertically striped bodice and stiff puffed horn-shaped sleeves.

These are just a few of the fabulous fashion designers featured at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York.
