BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE has launched a new capsule collection of handbags called SHOGUN, inspired by the cult-classic robot toys of the same name. Evoking the proto-“Transformers” toys through the addition of studs resembling mechanical bolts and robot-ready colors, the SHOGUN collection reinvents Issey Miyake’s own cult-classic, the BAO BAO bag. This unique capsule collection features totes, pouches, and clutches in an array of sci-fi-inspired prints, high-shine metallics, and ultra-saturated jewel tones.

Like the Shogun robots, ISSEY MIYAKE BAO BAO bags are transformed by the user, creating striking shapes while maintaining functionality. Inspired by the concept of “shapes made by chance,” the bags are at once light and soft – they fold, accommodate and transform themselves through handling to create dramatic new forms. These futuristic bags are artfully constructed through a complex layering technique where in each triangular form is adhered by hand onto a pliable mesh fabric.
