Vibrant Decades: Sixties Seventies Trend Autumn Winter 2014 15

The 1960’s and 1970’s were definitive times for film music and fashion. Both decades broke fashion traditions, and created new and powerful aesthetics that are an enduring and seemingly limitless source of inspiration for generations of fashion designers. In Autumn Winter 2014 the swinging 60’s silhouettes, made famous by Twiggy and Brigitte Bardot, as well as the sexy and graphic motifs of the 70’s returned triumphantly to the catwalk.

Jean Charles de Castelbajac drew on his own history, revisiting one of his favorite symbols from his own youth back in 1968, the star. Inspired by the American flag and preeminent pop culture position in the era he used blown up oversized stars, a frequently youthful symbol but one he injected with chic, casting it in muted tones on decadent cashmere to create a sophisticated reflection on this ubiquitous symbol.

Model and Actress Elisa Sednaoui, loved the disco visuals of the 1970’s and how fashion began to engage with club culture in the era, visually she is particularly inspired by the the way optical patterns were used to dramatic effect on garments in a dazzling and sensual fashion. Matthew Williamson channeled his vision of a jet-set bohemian women of the 1970s onto the women of today to create a glamorous carefree figure, complemented by flower power motifs used in abundance.

At Just Cavalli an explosion of psychedelic and complex patterns cast in vivacious tones and fluorescents created a frenetic pop art atmosphere. These powerful patterns were a pointed reminder to the fashion savvy that winter does not have to equal a somber monotone wardrobe.
