PHILLIP PLEIN’s Knockout Runway Show

We take a look at the PHILIPP PLEIN autumn/winter 2015 menswear collection. The luxury brand maintained its street cool and wearability as well as its pop culture connections with a knockout sports inspired collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Rapper Snoop Dogg opened the show by performing inside an ultimate fighting style octagon boxing ring complete with ring announcer and round girl. The models walked out inside a steel cage surrounding the ring with a live MMA fight happening and percussionists performing simultaneously, hyping adrenaline and aggression to the max.

Phillip Plein told FashionOne about his inspiration and concept and explained his outlook on sports, men and the idea of an urban warrior. This luxury sportswear collection features of a range of street wear staples reworked in leather and crocodile skin, embellished with studs and crystals and emblazoned with team numbers and tattoo style gothic text and numerals. Football jerseys and baseball shirts are transformed into extravagant show pieces and the collection pushes the limits of street wear with leather tracksuits and functional military bomber jackets mixed in with ornamental sports equipment accessories like helmets and chest plates.

Plein talks proudly about his exclusive contribution to the luxury market and gives his thoughts on the evolution of man and how this has affected the realm of men’s fashion.
