Exodus Premieres in London and Courts Controversy in Egypt and Morocco

Hollywood blockbuster directed by Ridley Scott, Exodus: Gods and Kings, held its anticipated movie premiere in London with fans gathering to catch glimpses of their favorite celebrities.

Christian Bale, Sir Ben Kingsley, Joel Edgerton and Maria Valverde are the main stars in this film, which relates the biblical story of Moses as related in the Book of Exodus. The actors all attended the screening in support of the film. Moses is played by Christian Bale, and Ramesses the pharaoh of Egypt is played by Joel Edgerton. Other notable actors in the film include John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Ben Mendelsohn, and Sigourney Weaver.

Joel Edgerton refused to comment on the racial casting controversy generated by the film, having spoken about it at length during interviews and press junkets, and instead said he was there to celebrate a movie he is proud of. Bale has defended Ridley Scott for his casting choices.

Maria Valverde revealed that her character Zipporah, Moses’ wife, is a strong woman. Describing her co-star Christian Bale, Valverde said that he was strong, powerful, and tough.

The film, which has been banned in both Morocco and Egypt, is dedicated to Scott's younger brother and fellow director, Tony Scott, who committed suicide in 2012.
