Modern Tailoring Breaks Tradition in a Contemporary Collection from Edun in New York



Fashion One invites you to join us as we take an inside look at the Edun collection for autumn/winter 2015 presented at New York Fashion Week where front row VIP sightings included Michael Stipe, Anna Wintour and Alexa Chung. We bring you highlights from the spectacular runway show as well as our exclusive interview with the creative director Danielle Sherman to hear all about her influences, concept and latest designs.

The designer took inspiration from Tangier as well as playing with the idea of mixing recognizable objects in non traditional ways. Sherman explains how the runway set was based on obelisks marking the entrance to temples in North Africa interpreted in an angular Donald Judd style, which mirrored the concept in the clothes themselves of putting a modern twist on traditional aspects.

The collection featured menswear tailoring in tuxedo jackets and overcoats, cashmere knits, leather coats and color blocked dresses as well as stripes, checks and houndstooth monochrome patterned fabrics. There were also frayed hems, raw seams and tactile reverse construction which was a conscious effort by Sherman to bring life to the pieces, as she explains, we need something to feel again in such a desensitized digital age.
